Oral Surgery, Dorval Dentist

What is Oral Surgery?

Oral surgery is a general term that encompasses a variety of services used to diagnose and surgically treat diseases, injuries, and defects of the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth, teeth, and jaws.

Surgical treatment may also be used as a preventive measure in some cases to help avoid future dental complications.

While we always prefer to use the least invasive treatment possible for a given dental problem, less invasive treatment options are simply not sufficient in certain cases, and oral surgery may be the appropriate course of action.

We believe that it is essential for patients to stay informed about their oral health, and understand why we might recommend oral surgery. Our team at Centre Dentaire Jardins Dorval will take the time to explain your treatment plan and the benefits of oral surgery to address your needs.

Dental Implants

Our dentists place dental implants as part of the process to replace a missing tooth and assist in restoring your smile. This implant will behave just like the root of a tooth and provide the base for a tooth replacement. A dental implant and replacement, when used together, look and feel much like a natural tooth.

Tooth Extractions

A tooth extraction is performed by a dentist or oral surgeon and is a relatively quick procedure. It involves the removal of a tooth from its socket in the bone. An extraction may be performed due to tooth decay, periodontal or gum disease, trauma, or overcrowding of teeth. If your dentist recommends a tooth extraction, they will discuss tooth replacement options with you.

Wisdom Tooth Removal

Wisdom teeth are the last molars to emerge in the typical adult mouth. Erupted wisdom teeth can have number of negative impacts on your oral health, such as gum issues, tooth crowding, and pockets between teeth that cavities can form in. In many cases, your dentist may suggest removing your wisdom teeth to prevent these issues.

Bone Grafts & Sinus Lifts

These surgical procedures are commonly used to strengthen the jaw in preparation for dental implants. With a bone graft, your dentist will add bone tissue to your jaw. A sinus lift is a specific type of bone graft where your dentist adds bone material to your upper back jaw, increasing the amount of bone in your sinus area.

Gum Grafts

For a gum graft procedure, your dentist will remove tissue from the roof of your mouth and use it to replace tissue in the gums. A gum graft can help to cover exposed tooth roots, repair receding gums, and reduce associated symptoms such as severe tooth sensitivity or eventual tooth loss.

Frenectomy

A frenectomy is a procedure that treats babies, children and adults who are tongue-tied, lip-tied or cheek-tied. Frenectomy is used to remove the frenum, a small piece of tissue that connects your cheeks, tongue or lips to your gum area and can restrict your function.
