How We Can Help You Relax
If you have anxiety when it comes to the dentist, you're not alone – many people experience some level of anxiety when seeing their dentist.
We offer dental sedation to help our patients overcome anxiety that might otherwise prevent them from getting the treatment they need. During your visit to Centre Dentaire Jardins Dorval, we will take the time to discuss your concerns with you and determine whether dental sedation may be able to help.
In addition to offering oral sedation, IV sedation and nitrous oxide, we will work at your pace, taking breaks whenever you need them, and providing calm reassurance along the way.
Nitrous Oxide (Laughing Gas)
Nitrous oxide is a medication that calms patients and allows them to remain awake and communicate with us. It also tends to increase the pain threshold, reduce the gag reflex, and make time seem to pass more quickly.
Oral Sedation
Your dentist will prescribe oral sedatives in the form of pills or liquids before your visit. The medication is taken orally before your dental appointment. It leaves you awake for the procedure but produces a calming effect that significantly relaxes you.
IV Sedation
IV sedatives are administered directly into the bloodstream through the vein for the deepest level of sedation without general anesthesia. To ensure safety, the dental team will monitor your health and vitals throughout the appointment.
Dental Sedation for Children
Dental appointments can be a source of anxiety for some children. This is why we do everything we can to help minimize any sources of distress or physical discomfort during our youngest patients' dental procedures.
One of the ways we can make kids with severe dental anxiety feel more comfortable is with dental sedation using nitrous oxide.
Nitrous oxide is delivered through a small mask fitted over the nose. It takes effect in as few as two minutes and wears off shortly after it is turned off. Your child will remain conscious during the procedure but will feel much more at ease.
Thanks to the calming effect of nitrous oxide, your child will be able to stay still and remain calm throughout their procedure, allowing for a shorter visit.
