Dental Care For Emergencies
A dental emergency can happen at any time and under any circumstances. If you find yourself in a situation that needs immediate dental attention, our dental clinic can help.
To ensure dental care when you need it most, please call us so we can schedule an appointment as soon as possible.
Common dental emergencies that our dentists should treat right away can include the following:
-
Lost Crowns
Crowns are built to last, but they can occasionally fall off your tooth prematurely. If this happens to you, don't panic. Call us as soon as possible to arrange an appointment to have it repaired.
If possible, locate any broken or lost crowns. Rinse it gently with warm water, and place it in a container to bring to your appointment. In many situations, we can reattach your existing crown and save you the money and time of having a new one created.
-
Lost Fillings
If a filling falls out of your teeth, make sure to call us as soon as possible. Because the hole in your tooth will be susceptible to decay, delaying a replacement filling will only make the situation worse. Make sure to keep the area clean and avoid chewing on the affected side until you get the filling replaced.
-
Chipped or Broken Teeth
Have a broken or chipped tooth? Find the missing piece of tooth if you can, place it in a clean container, and bring it with you to the dentist. Your dentist can potentially reattach it. Whether the piece is found or not, call us right away to have it repaired.
-
Knocked-Out Teeth
If you can find your knocked-out tooth, rinse, hold it by the crown – not the roots – and re-insert it into your tooth socket by gently biting down once it is in its place. It is recommended to place the tooth either in a glass of milk or in your mouth until you can see the dentist.
Apply a cold compress against your cheek where your tooth has been fractured to reduce any pain and swelling.
Come to the office as soon as possible. Call us ahead if you are able. The key to successful treatment will be visiting the dentist as soon as possible.
-
Swelling, Pain or Discomfort
Are you experiencing moderate to severe swelling, pain, or discomfort in your mouth or jaw area?
Call us as soon as possible and follow these steps to alleviate pain in the meantime:
- Apply a cold compress to your cheek, on the area where you are feeling pain.
- Take an over-the-counter pain medication.
- Use saltwater to flush the area that is in pain. This will help remove any debris that could be causing the toothache.
Please note that if the swelling is impacting your ability to breathe, you should seek emergency medical care at a hospital as soon as possible.
